Dunamis Law Firm was founded with a singular conviction: that every individual regardless of status, background, or accusation—deserves fearless, principled legal representation. Since our inception in New York City, we have grown into one of the most respected criminal defense firms in the region, known for our strategic precision, ethical rigor, and uncompromising dedication to justice.

As someone who came to the United States from Belgium as a boy and later found his calling in the law, Rurl Amos founded Dunamis to be more than just a legal practice. He envisioned a firm where strength, strategy, and service converged; a place where clients facing the hardest moments of their lives could find not just defense, but dignity. "Dunamis," derived from the Greek word for power, speaks to our foundational belief that the law, when wielded with integrity, has the power to protect and to restore

At Dunamis, we specialize in criminal defense, with a focus on both state and federal litigation. Our cases span the spectrum, from violent crime and organized crime, to white collar offenses, fraud, and complex investigations. We also handle select civil rights cases and appellate work where constitutional issues or injustices are at stake.

Our team is made up of fiercely capable attorneys, many of whom bring backgrounds in public defense, federal litigation, and academia. Among them is my partner, Darcy Alec, a Chicago-born litigator whose sharp legal mind and moral clarity make him indispensable to our mission.
